TOP500 Site Gets New Look and Expands Content

By: TOP500 Team

Prometeus GmbH, the promoter of the TOP500 project, is pleased to announce the re-launch of the TOP500 site. The website has been redesigned to provide readers with year-round content regarding events and news in the HPC community as well as provide insights into industry and technology trends.

The new site will introduce a contemporary design. In particular, it will incorporate several new features to provide visitors one-click access to key pages like the current TOP500 list plus an overview of all number one systems over the last two decades. Another new feature that readers will find useful is a webpage devoted to detailed statistics about the current list.

All in all, the TOP500 project organizers are committed to providing site visitors with richer content delivered in a more user-friendly format. This includes additional news updates, blogs as well as feature stories.

The TOP500 list is updated twice yearly, coinciding with ISC High Performance, formerly known as the International Supercomputing Conference, in Germany, and the Supercomputing Conference (SC) in the US. The next list, which is the 44th in the series, will be announced at SC14 in New Orleans on November 18.

Cooperation with Intersect360 Research

Prometeus GmbH is also very pleased to announce its exclusive partnership with Intersect360 Research, a leading market research organization that focuses on the high performance computing industry.

From its ongoing end-user research studies covering HPC and related topics, such as big data and cloud computing, Intersect360 Research will select market research highlights for TOP500 readers. Reflecting the theme of the TOP500, these research highlights will include “TOP” lists that spotlight HPC market leadership in areas such as storage, middleware, and applications.

“As part of the collaboration, we have now added audio content to the site, namely the popular weekly Intersect360 Research podcast “This Week in HPC” with HPC market analysts, Michael Feldman and Addison Snell,” said Thomas Meuer, Managing Director of Prometeus GmbH.

Their podcast, which features candid discussions of the latest HPC news and happenings, will be available on TOP500.org as a weekly feature starting this week.

“TOP500 has long been a powerful brand in the HPC industry, and we’re excited to see it take on a more prominent role,” said Addison Snell, CEO of Intersect360 Research. “We are thrilled to contribute our research and analysis to help make TOP500 an alternative source of information for leaders in the HPC industry.”

With more than 300,000 page views and over 70,000 unique visitors per month – which doubles in the months around the list publication – the website is an invaluable platform connecting the HPC community. Therefore, we encourage you to submit your press releases, blog posts or even feature articles, if you feel like sharing a compelling story with others in the industry. About the TOP500 List

The TOP500 list catalogues the world’s fastest 500 supercomputers, based on the popular Linpack benchmark. The first version of the list started as an exercise for a small conference in Germany in June 1993. Out of curiosity, the authors decided to revisit the list in November 1993 to see how things had changed. About that time they realized they might be on to something and decided to continue compiling the list, which is now a much-anticipated, much-watched and much-debated twice-yearly event. The TOP500 list is compiled by Erich Strohmaier and Horst Simon of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; Jack Dongarra of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and Martin Meuer of Prometeus, Germany.
